Job Description:

• The technical product manager is responsible for ensuring the successful definition of the entire Akiban offering hierarchy.

• The role is both outward and inward facing:

- Outward facing responsibilities include hands on technical evaluations and reviews with customers; working closely with sales and marketing teams to ensure achievement of revenue targets, and the successful pursuit of large sales opportunities.

- Inward facing responsibilities include working closely with Engineering to define new product requirements and manage the market release process.

• Beyond the market release cycle, the technical product manager is also responsible for providing significant contributions to the overall product planning process, working closely with the management team to define the product strategy, financial plan and key investments for the Akiban product line.

Position Requirements:

• Leads the technical requirements gathering activities and the roadmap planning for the Akiban offerings

• Manages / oversees the market release cycle for major product releases. Works closely with marketing & sales leadership to ensure a successful product launch.

• Conducts ongoing customer and market research with frequent technical customer & prospect dialogue, including regular face-to-face meetings.

• Assists & augments the sales teams with large and complex sales opportunities, typically playing the role of product expert / advisor and is a focal point for product roadmap and strategy related questions.

• Participates in analysis of revenue and other business related information for the product line, identifying trends, anomalies and areas of opportunity.

• Regularly participates in analyst briefings and PR related activities, playing both a strategist and subject matter expert role. Is able to influence analyst perception of the market and Akiban.

• Conducts ongoing, independent competitive research and works closely with the CMO to ensure the sales teams are equipped with the information needed to win.

• Manages the customer Request for Enhancement process, ensuring timely response to customer generated enhancement requests.

Desired Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science and 10+ years overall industry experience, with three or more of those years in product management.

• Past experience (prior to product management) should include one or more of the following: product marketing, product strategy, competitive analysis or technical sales roles.

• Extensive experience with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL), Caching (Memcached) and Java Frameworks (Hibernate, Spring).

Having the following experience is a plus:

• Deep knowledge of database administration, database system theory and design

• Experience with distributed system design and scale-out data infrastructure

• Ability to work as part of a self directed team, in which you determine your tasks on a daily basis in coordination with co-workers, rather than waiting for work to be assigned to you
